What is a snap cord you ask? Maybe this doesn’t exist, but I’m sick of looking at family photos without me in them. I want a cable release for taking selfies on my Deardorff. Anyone have a long, 6’ cable release? Any tips?

I prefer the air release - it takes a bit of effort to use it, but you can pick your moment. Timers are OK if you are working with stable conditions.

It works perfectly well, but it's kind of hard to keep the cable out of the shot, especially since being rolled up gives it a permanent corkscrew form.

Just to mention it, there are videos/stills with instructions on building your own solenoid out of common plastic syringe bodies.

You could also make an electric syringe plunger wired to your homemade solenoid.
