I don't use Arista but I do use SilverFast. Just try the different film settings to see what gives you the best result. You can also make adjustments before scanning.
Yes, we have done that, and usually like HP5 Plus 400 for this film, but wondered if anyone had gone through the trouble and done their own.
BTW Arista 400 EDU (from Freestyle Ca) is the same as Forma 400 I've been told.
I've been a SilverFast Ai user since 2000 and currently have Ai Studio 8. I scan mostly B&W film and, personally, never warmed up to the neg profiles regardless of film type. If you want to save yourself the grief and obtain wonderful B&W scans, use your Silverfast to make a raw scan, then use: http://www.colorperfect.com/colorperfect.html?lang=en to convert. I've been working this way for several years now and wouldn't think of generating scans any other way.
