Last night I remembered that I had left my entire collection of slides, slide projector and screen in the attic when I moved home two years ago. This morning I got up and climbed into the attic and took all my slide gear out, everything was fine.

I'd really love to shoot some slide film again but first I'd bei nterested to know

1. If slide film is still available?
2. Is it expensive
3. Can it still be process paid like it used to years ago

Yes, slide film is still available, and in many different styles. If you want the look of your slides from your years past, look at Kodachrome 64, which is the closest to the old emulsions (and might actually be what you shot with). However, if you are looking for a newer look, and want an "easier" slide film to work with, I recommend either Fuji Sensia 100 or Kodak Elite Chrome 100 as the best starter films. I live in the US, so process-prepaid has not been available for the past fifty-some odd years. If you live in Europse, some films, including Kodachrome are process prepaid.

Yes, slide film is still available.

It cost more than it did.

If you mean prepaid processing, IDK, but most good labs still process E6, or you can send it out if you live in an area that doesn't have it.

Fuji prepaid E-6 processing mailers are currently available new. Kodak's were also available until relatively recently (maybe a couple of years?). I believe Kodak mailers are still honored by Dwayne's in Kansas.

I can get both Kodachrome and E-6 film processed by dropping them at several stores within a one mile radius in a small midwestern town, pop. around 6,000. I can also get them done by mail multiple labs other than Dwayne's or Fuji, and can drop them in a larger town at a pro lab about 35 miles away. I also mail out to an E6 lab I like a lot in Asheville, NC.

There are many slide films currently available with a variety of characteristics, and in many film formats.

Fuji and Kodak make slide film. It's not as readily available as it once was though and you are limited to buy it online or at photography stores.
2. Is it expensive
Everything's expensive today.
3. Can it still be process paid like it used to years ago
If you get Kodachrome, then it has to be mailed to Dwaynes in Kansas City, MO. That's just for Kodachromes which is a special type of slide. Any E-6 lab in the area will process your slides - they even might have their own mailers. You're going to have check that on your own. You can also shoot regular b&w film and send that to dr5 and they will process your b&w negative film into b&w slides. You cannot buy slides process paid in advance.

Regards, Art.

Actually you can still buy prepaid mailers from B&H photo. They aren't cheap but also not that bad either. I have never used them but they are there. They even have Fuji mailers however they aren't valid after 12/09.

That depends on where you are. In the UK Kodachrome can only be bought process paid. It come with an envelope in the box.

Other films such as Fuji Sensia are also available process paid here.

The current range of Fuji professional reversal films whether Velvia, Provia , or Astia are superb, and are available in 35mm, 120, and large format sizes, I shoot and project both 35mm and 6x6, and can't believe how good these slide films are, they even make my puny efforts look good.

Unless the OP is in the UK ;-). Process paid Kodachrome is available off the shelf at pretty well any high-street Boots the Chemist; Boots also sell other slide films, I think they still have an own-brand slide film actually, although I've no idea what it is.

I knew that, I just assumed the OP meant processing included.
