This is a link to a short survey I have created to look at the state of the current market for slide film.

The data is being utilized to create a business plan. It is intended for only those who currently use slide film or intend to use slide film.

It will take about a minute to complete and is best if taken by U.S. or Canadian residents.

Please take the survey only once.

I'll post results in the near future.

I haven't used tranny film in six or seven years. Negative films have such good dynamic range, good film speed, and small grain that I just don't need tranny film. Sorry.

Ditto Bruce Watson -- I just don't need it these days. Any color I do is digital or digital scanned from color negative film, and I'm perfectly happy with that. B&W is another matter entirely.

I would die of a heart attack before paying over $5 for a roll of film...except weird stocks I hunt down and shoot a roll of every now and then. What exactly are you planning to do with this?

I supose you would be 6 feet under an i would still be shooting chromes (Perhaps in sheets not rolls) but regardless, what else do you see to replace chromes? (Not K64)

I was surprised to see at Q7 what is the most I'd pay for a roll of FRESH slide film being the maxima $10.00-$12.00. A 135/36 can of Velvia 100F is currently AUD$25.90 (Provia 100F $23.00). E6 processing is commonly $12 to $13, but 5x4 is commonly (and still without adequate justification) $11 per sheet, making large format use much more expensive (especially for bracketing!).

The questions are a little too narrow in scope e.g. at Q2 many professionals and doubtless learned amateur photographers would not base their filmstock choice on any of these choices. My choice is based on contrast, palette/fidelity (commonly 3 Fuji reversal films in use in my studio and on-loc), application, quality — in that order.

One item not mentioned was difficulty of getting it processed. If there were still several places to get Kodachrome done it would be my number one without any doubt. I'd also probably increase my useage by an order of magnitude.

When I had a look, I was seeing the pricing in USD rather than AUD and realised how much we are being overcharged here in AUS!
If I could get rolls at that price I'd also buy a new fridge to store it all in.

For me, it's palette, palette, grain, and longevity of archival. And the prices on the poll seemed a bit low for being in USD. Whereas a year or so ago twelve of our dollars could buy $13 in American dollars, these days it can only buy about nine. If a good roll of E-6/K-14 here can be found for under $9, then these days it's practically a "bargain".
