Not available that weekend, I will be skiing in Canada.

I am not interested in skid row. Period.

It is fascinating to see how "skid road", which is a term that originated in the logging town that early Vancouver started out as, has migrated as far as it has.

If I had a chance to go out photographing with Art, I would jump at it.

I agree Art is well travelled and has a good handle on this thing we call photography.

I'd never heard that about the origin about the term "skid row". Did it have to do with skids that were used to move logs overland on snow/ice?

Actually, the skids were used to move the logs from and through forested areas to water and the Hastings Mill, overland on what was most likely became essentially rivers of mud.
The Hastings Mill was located where Vancouver's Skid Row (as it is often written now) currently is.

Thanks for explaining, Matt. That's around where the Gastown Riots were, I guess? I saw the Stan Douglas photograph of that event when I was out there for my first visit a few years back.
