Looking to improve my Norma. Does anyone have info or links to active information or videos for a Sinar Norma?
I looked for old posts but links aren’t active

Swings and tilts are easy to get off after I lock them in place. Standards are a bit sloppy on rail. It’s hard to get level to stay.

I'm around and can help you. I have Philip Morgan's DVD and he knows what he's talking about. Much time and skill is required to completely strip and properly rebuild a Norma. If you are good at auto repair a similar skill set is required. It's easy to destroy a Norma if you haven't read up on it.

I have twelve Normas in my studio, plus about 90% of what they ever made for it. I've been collecting Norma stuff for nearly forty years.


PRINT OUT the instruction book and learn it. Page 13 shows the major lube points you can do quickly and fairly easily. BTW "Petrol" is not gasoline as we know it in the USA, they are referring to "white petrol". COLEMAN fluid for cooking stoves is the same thing. I use blackish grey auto grease for lubing the points on page 13. An "emulsion film" is all you want.

I certainly didn't have any trouble refurbishing mine. But things like the friction of the standard clamps onto the main rail do loosen up over time and need periodic readjustment. And it takes a little practice to know how to sequentially tighten the set screws, back n forth, so as to achieve correct linearity. The rail section diameters do not seem quite as consistent as with later versions of Sinar.

Nokton - are you sure that long setup is a Norma camera, and not some kind of linear neutron accelerator? The two-eyed thing is obviously from an alien landing site. ... and the blindfolded guy in a business suit? - obviously an alien abductee.

Interesting Drew. Mine don't loosen up.... They WEAR AWAY deep paths in those gibs through decades of use. I sand those gibs down until they are smooth and uniformly flat, then reinstall them, adjusting their linearity.

Sinar 18x24cm 8x10" Norma 300mm f5.6 chrome Schneider Symmar Sinar Norma Automatic Iris mount. 8x10" Norma Bag Bellows and Norma Monocular in the back. Sweet to look through. Norma Pan Tilt Head and Manfrotto tripod. A good Traveling Norma I used to use in the field. This is a super speedy camera to operate, no need to go back and forth when operating, all controls are fully seen and set from behind the camera. I've had to shoot fast and this does the job best IMO. This is a later version Norma as it does not have not have locking levers front or back. I guess they figured the camera was tight and smooth enough that it doesn't need locking levers. This one is as smooth operating as is possible

The videos I posted are the Philip Morgan videos. They were referenced as downloadable from a number of sources, that are now down. If he is still selling them, I should take the files I uploaded offline, but the impression I got from other links is that these weren’t available to buy. (A quick search of eBay and elsewhere doesn’t find any for sale pages.)

The Norma design was an early adopter of high-wear nylon - not exactly Delrin, but something similar. The later F design improved the performance of the rail sliders by inserting a stack of tiny metal shims which could be added or removed to fine-tune the tension.
Norma is a much better lookin' gal, however.
