I've been using a 2nd rear standard(found one cheap on KEH a while ago while making another order) as a way to attach an extra bellows to give me a sort of compendium hood.

However, in an attempt to save weight, when I saw a Sinar bellows + 2 clips + rod for $30 on the big auction site I jumped.

It arrived yesterday and seems to be working well, except for 1 issue: the hex rod cutout on my norma standard doesn't seem to be oriented properly to make the lens hood square: see attached photos.

Is this normal? any way to fix it?

seems this is normal, the norma rod and the modern bellows clips have different alignments.

However, it seems it is possible to position the clip such that the bellows center is aligned to the lens board's center, except rotated 45degrees. I guess this will sort of work in the meantime.

If it's 8x10, a Lee compendium can b a good way to go.
I had a spare Toyo G compendium bellows lens shade, disassembled it, and attached the bellows portion to a Norma intermediate standard. The G square bellows portion accepts masks, so I use a 4x5 mask to further restrict light in the scene down to the film's 4x5 format.

Here's a link that describes this approach . . .

Sinar cameras are designed so you can use a conventional short square bellows, a rod, and a special pair of clips to obtain an excellent adjustable compendium shade. The orientation of the hexagon rod did change from the Norma era to all the following Sinar series of cameras. You can simply grind or file an extra set of
flats on the rear of the rod to accommodate either position. Quite simple.

It's normal for Sinar Norma standards. I experience the same and have compared the rod holder for both Sinar F and Sinar Norma side by side. I looked for bellows holders that might correct for this misalignment, but couldn't find any.

I'm thinking that the rod on Norma is designed to use filter holders that rotate in and out of place in front of the lens. For this application, the misalignment that you're encountering doesn't matter.

I would recommend the Lee bellows lens shades as an alternative; less weight as well. None the less, I made quite a nice bellows lens shade by combining a Toyo bellows lens shade with a Norma intermediate standard. They line up just fine so that four small bolts (one near each corner) can be used to hold them together. The final results can be quickly attached and removed from a Sinar rail. Works fine.
