Sinar Norma 13x18 Planfilm Kassette by Nokton48, on Flickr

Anybody here know anything about these Norma era Sinar holders? These are 13cmx18cm Sinar Norma Planfilm Kassettes.
Any idea who made them? These held E-3 50 ASA film now that would be something to find.

Loaded with Fuji HRU XRay film these will make nice sized contact prints.

My Cambo 5x7" came with a dozen of 13x18cm holders and it's what I have... it has been stated that they are not useful 5x7" size film as the sheet may fall outside of the guides. This may happen depending on the dimesions each (film/holders) manufacturer uses/used and there is a variability from tolerance...

I addressed that by placing a narrow 1'2mm (IIRC) wide plastic strips (made with a cutter) inserted in the notches so the film won't move enough to fall. Another choice is converting the holder to Adhesive class, just spraying some 3M Re Mount glue in the septum.

In european countries 13x18cm was a popular very Pro format in the 1960s, 20x24cm was way less popular in most of the regions.

Thanks for that

Actually I have 9x12cm, 13x18cm, and 18x24cm Sinar Holders. Right now I am cutting down Fuji HRU XRay film to fit the smaller holders. In XRay single sided it seems to be all about metric 18x24cm as a minimum, and I have 18x24cm Sinar Norma holders which fit the big sheets perfectly. An 8x10 RC contact print from a 18x24cm sheet of film, with black border, is the goal. 13x18cm I will custom cut which is not difficult for me to do. I can get two 13x18cm negs from an 8x10 sheet of HRU, and then split 8x10 RC paper to contact print two of them, also with black border. For 9x12cm I simply split the 18x24cm into four 9x12cm quadrants.

5x7 Norma Ready to Go Norma 165 Sup Ang by Nokton48, on Flickr

I've been working with this one and it's ready to go. 5x7 Norma with 165mm F8 Sinar Norma Super Angulon. This is the deluxe version with aperture contol from behind the camera, Compur Special forward mounted shutter. I've heard the Compur Special was desirable because smaller shutter equals higher shutter speeds. Desirable as the the lens was marketed at the time as being fully corrected wide open. So you have all the options with the deluxe version. Notice the Sinar Norma Monocular with bag bellows, no need for focusing cloth and I can see every speck of ground glass grain with the original Sinar setup.

Perhaps Chromatic Aberration can be well corrected when wide open, as a biogon derivative the SA has enough elements groups to have the CA well corrected at large aperture if the designer wanted it, but corners are not optimal when wide open even in the 4x5 format, so situation is even worse for 5x7.

You know, marketting information always tell the nice part of the history

Still, all depends on the shot, many times corners are not important because you have sky in the bottom corners and out of focus close terrain in the bottom corners, or you won't enlarge much, or it does not matter for other reasons...

That shutter is perfect for studio work. In the field it has some drawbacks, an "in shutter" lens would operate with regular bellows and it would provide faster speeds to freeze movement of water or vegetation under wind, still it can be used in the field, also providing an excellent solution for cases of glasses that are only in barrel.

It is wonderful on 4x5 and 5x7

Yeah, quite an industrial beauty, but also a competent top notch setup, the original and unbeated Norma!

Eternally durable, easy to repair (ajust) and the most versatile Sinar model. High precision and simple&fast operation... Geared movements or slightly lighter weight of the following models may suit better specific studio work or save some weight, but nothing as the sound all terrain Norma original design, IMO. Regarding beatuy... the Norma is simplicity made pure beauty.
