Simple Leica question

I have an M6. I've only ever used it with a Summicron 50 or a Zeiss f2.8 21mm. Id like to experiment. If you were to buy a converter ring so you could use screw lenses which would you buy? If you were to buy cheap-ish non Leica lenses which would you try? Thanks

I'd buy a Leitz adapter, waiting for a good deal. Sometimes screw mount lenses will come with one thrown in or you could put up a WTB.

The Voigtlander 15mm looks like a lot of fun but I haven't used one.

You need the adapter that I'll bring up the correct frame line or correct pair of frame lines.

The 15mm will require an auxiliary finder.

The leitz adapters tend to be expensive the Cosina ones are cheaper.

Some Chinese ones are good some might not mount on your body, without a file.

The compatability of M lenses is not 100%...

The Cosina voighlander lenses (M & LTM) and ZM lenses are cheaper than Leica lenses, there are other 3rd party LTM and M lenses. In addition there are Nikon and Canon single coated LTM lenses from the past.

True an elastic band can be used to pull the selector lever to select the correct frame pair or you can jam a rubber wedge or you can nail file the adapter ring.
But when you get a 2nd LTM lens it is easier to get a 2nd adapter and leave both on the lenses.

After those two lenses it is hard to recommend something...

Summar 50 /2 if you could find one with clean optics. Use it wide open on not so close distances and around 5.6-8. True classic lens to see the power of uncoated optics. Again, it is worth to try it only if optics are not badly damaged.

Only coated summars are likely to be intact eg they are intolerant of industrial pollution.

But any FSU lenses in good condition are still cheap.

Eg Russar 20mm and Helious 28mm.

Or Canon & Nikon LTM.

Or modern Cosina Voightlander.

You do need an adapter to mount LTM lenses on a M6, you try screwing them on without using one.

To the OP, you have a 50mm and a 21mm, so you could think about going longer. For that I'd recommend a CV 75mm f2.5 Color Heliar. It is screw mount so you will need a 50/75 adapter, either CV version or a cheap Chinese job off the internet (they are usually well made and work well, and not much more expensive than the rubber band that has been suggested). If you got a set of adapters 'in stock' you would be ready to explore LTM mount lenses from camera shops or internet auction sites. As always Jupiter lenses are often the go-to choice for cheap LTM's, and while the quality can vary from superb to so-so they'll never break the bank.

Philip, it was only a rhetorical means of flagging up the expense of a set of cheap adapters versus an elastic band. Any from a number of quotes was possible to just to highlight the absurdity of the topic so don't feel hard done by, and nobody else should feel jealous if I didn't quote you.

Steve, I only asked because it seemed that you were suggesting that I had said something else than I said, but I understand now that you used general you.

Some, however, might not find it absurd to avoid investing in one adapter for each LTM lens when the preview lever works just as well. Then again everyone's different.

If you have several LTM lenses and one adapter then you have converted your M2 into a LTM camera.

So you could sell it and buy a Canon P?
