Any Silvestri people here? Or any 58mm-on-6x12?

I just bought a Silvestri H with the 58mm XL and 6x12 setup, and it should be here tomorrow. Could anyone answer these questions:

1. If I would like to use a screw-in contrast filter, could one of these be used in conjunction with the center filter 111b?

2. If a single 67mm contrast filter is used by itself, is standard B+W depth ok? This would seem to have a 21mm FOV, so I would think yes.

3. If not, what's a good alternative that doesn't cause mechanical vignetting or make this camera any harder to handle?

Thanks,
Dante

To answer my own question - but not Drew's, with the 58 and 6x12, you can use a 67mm in the centered position, without a IIIb. Any movement will generate vignetting.

Otherwise, it is no problem to stack an 86mm contrast filter with the IIIb at any shift position up to 15mm (my H is +15/-10).

You should try some exposures with the center filter and without to see the difference at the egdes of your negative. I know with the 47xl on 4x5 the center filter was necessary imo. If you don't need the center filter with a filter stacked on the inside (with the lens unshifted)- then you don't need the center filter without the stacked filter (with the lens unshifted).
So I would say I would only use a second filter on the outside of the center filter (unless your not going to use the center filter at all / kind of a different mater). To go a step further and insure the second filter does not interfere: I would use a step up ring and get your filters in a larger size. OR--->You may want to consider getting a filter holder arrangement such as Cokin or Lee. Be sure to get them big enough as well.

I used the 58 SAXL on 4x5 regularly. It is not strictly needed to use the center filter with small apertures. Wide open may be another story. When I use the center filter, images are great. When I don't use the center filter, and the lens is stopped down, the images are great with no vignetting.

Contrast filters can be used with the center filter. Look on Schneider's website for the filter size. I think it is 80+ mm.
