I'm struggling to use Silverfast's iSRD feature. I have a rather dusty roll of 135 to scan and after physically removing as much dust as possible, I want the scanner to do it's best to remove the dust digitally. But when I enable the iSRD thing it just gives a preview with weird geometric shapes in it:

With iSRD off:

And then when I change the mode to "Automatic":

Other modes don't fare any better: "mark" just gives me a red screen.

Anyone any idea how to use this damn thing? The manual is typically useless.

Is this an ICE-enabled scanner that relies on an additional IR capture to determine where the dust is? If so, do you realize this does not work on regular B&W film? It's designed to work with dye-based film; i.e. color film and chromogenic B&W film.

iSRD won't work on BW film.

You need to use SRDx which is not hardware based (IR) and, of course, YMMV...

Ah! Thanks for that! I did NOT realise that iSRD only worked with colour negatives. It would have saved me a lot of time if that critical little nugget of wisdom was mentioned in the app, or at least in the documentation...
