Just got an Epson V750 Pro which works great with the Epson scanning software. I loaded up Silverfast and did the update. When it says it's searching for devices it crashes. Any suggestions??

Ya I know Vuescan is probably better and I may go that route, but wanted to try this program out first since I got it for free.

Eric

ps. I checked Silverfast's site for a solution but nothing there that I could see.

Lots of questions...
Did silverfast run ok on that machine before the update? The update was to add support for that scanner to an existing installation of silverfast?
Is it possible to uninstall the update?
What OS are you running?
Is the Epson sw running when you try this?
For example, if you bring up task manager, assuming this is a PC, then look at the "processes" tab, is there anything running that says "Epson". If so try stopping the Epson software, then try Silverfast.

The OS is Win 7 64bit
No Epson software running
No the software did not run prior to undate.
I have uninstalled the update and still no go
All installs of Silverfast were clean installs. Never installed before.

Thanks. I was thinking as I left the house shortly after posting the OP that I should have included more info.

There may be some hints of what's happening in the Windows event viewer, look at the application log for messages from SilverFast or possibly the system log.

Try removing any non-essential USB devices except for the scanner and your keyboard/rodent, and connect the scanner directly, not through any external USB hubs.

It looks like Silverfast supports win 7/64 bit, so you should be ok there.

One possibility is that the Epson Scan component that reacts to the scanner's scan button is keeping Silverfast from accessing the scanner. But, silverfast should be able to handle that.
Another, perhaps more likely cause is that Silverfast didn't install properly. The easiest way to deal with that would be to uninstall and re-install.
Then, to install it again, try right-clicking on the Silverfast installer and selecting "run as administrator". If the installer auto-launches when you insert the CD, exit from the installer, then browse the CD in explorer to select it.
You may want to temporarily disable any anti-virus software. It would also be a good idea to try the install after freshly booting the machine.

One more thing to check, and this is a bit of a blind guess, is to try a different USB port.

In order, the most reliable USB ports are:
-- Back panel
-- Front panel
-- Monitor or other USB hub.

So first, if you haven't already, try rebooting the system. And then check to see if you're plugged into one of the rear-panel USB ports, if you're not already.
