I was developing a test strip in my Diafine like dev.
Poured solution A in the tank, shaked, agitation, let time pass, etc,

Then I opened a bottle and poured the solution back in it.

When it overflown I noticed that it was the fixer bottle...

For some reason I cannot mix fixer 3:1. I have no problem with developer - just fixer. Wierd.

The dumb things I've done in the darkroom would overflow this forum.

And the cusses I've cussed would not be suitable for the genteel company of sailors and whorehouses.

O c`mon tocayo, fess up...you mean to tell me this is the first time you do this? If I told you all the moronic things I have done, you would all marvel that I am still doing photography.....and alive...

Hello, chara (tocayio in Portuguese).

Not the first time, nor the worst one, of course. Have you opened a 35 mm camera in daylight before rewinding? I did...
But what really made me cuss was that it was just the second time I've used a newly mixed batch of Diafinish, as Lex says. The fixer was already quite used, so not a big loss.

--> me, the darkroom dunce

I haven't tossed film in the fixer first.... yet. But the other things I've done... eeeeeeee

Oh yeah? Well, I've done LOTS dumber things than you!!

Try mixing up a liter of RA-4 processing chemicals - and realizing I was developing *FILM* - C-41 - just in time to avoid pouring it into the tank. That was the latest - yesterday - in a l-o-n-g line of mistakes.

Then there was the time in a "fine art" (hmm... Freudian slip... I typed "fun art", before I corrected it) session, where I went through a whole set of absolutely *brilliant* and beautiful poses - with an empty magazine in the 'Blad.
I tried to save things by saying (after my obvious stunned reaction), "Uh, wait - I'm going to take one more roll..." The model looked at me and said, "Nice try, slick - an empty magazine." So much for acting "cool".

Cursing ... A freind of mine's father owned and operated a Beauty Salon. You should hear the language those women use. Enough to embarass a troop of drunken Combat Engineers....

I havent opened a 35 mm camera in years, but I have removed the darkslide in a holder in daylight to see if it had film inside....right before I was going to put it in the camera..lol....

I still cant understand why I did such a stupid thing....

Well, how about this.

Using ABC Pyro, negs are way thin, I keep developing and developing, still thin.

OK, next time I increase my exposure by a couple of stops.

Back into the darkroom, same problem.

$80 meter check later, the meter is fine.

I am thinking, how do Michael and Paula do it?

Go into darkroom with latest batch of film and then it dawns on me, 1 1 1 7 is a bit different to 1 1 1 70. And I am not blond.......

i kind of like to put fixer in with my film before i put the film in developer. now THAT is always kind of fun

Open up a 35 mm camera with film it? Sure, I did that. When I was an instructor for a basic photography class. Right up there in the front of the class. Mr. Expert Photographer does a no no. What to do? "All right, class, don't ever do what I just did. Remember to check the film counter before you open up the camera..."

I just had to dig up this old thread.

Last night I was enjoying a pleasant evening of printing. After an hour or so, I noticed that the test strips that I had done earlier in the evening were becoming decidedly discolored. I checked the label on my solution bottles and sure enough, I had filled my third tray with Perma wash instead of fixer. :surprised:ops:

A word to the wise, they aren't interchangable.<G>

A few years ago I wanted to test xp2 film. I had the roll next to some rolls of fp4 that needed to be developed. I picked up a roll and loaded it onto the spool. Once I turned on the light and saw the paper backing and realized that I could no longer take the roll in for c-41 processing. So I decided to what would happen with PMK.
To my amazement the negatives came out very printable. The contrast was a little high but still made nice prints. I planned on testing further to hone in on the perfect time and dilution but haven't done so yet. This was my first adventure into cross processing by accident.

Probably not enough room on this site to list all the gaffes over 30 years. Back in the speed graphic days, once walked out of a newsroom with empty backs. Technically not my fault, but I should have checked them. Luckily, a photog from another paper let me use some spares for that story until I could get back to my own shop. (would that happen today?)
A couple of months ago, I was testing some 120. Ran the developer, stop bath and fixer in the usual manner. Was just going to put it in the stop bath when I saw my syringe of HC110 sitting full on the bench. I'd forgotten to put it in the developer water before starting. Thank gawd there wasn't a client waiting for the results.
Fortunately, when you get to be 66 here in Canada you're allowed to have a senior moment once in a while.
This is getting off the topic, but I just recently bought myself a 45 Pacemaker Crown Graphic(the graphic was the camera I learned on) and started using it again. I'd forgotten how much fun those old beasts could be to use. It's a lot lighter and easier to use than my Toyo field and it's making it fun all over again. Hope it's not a sign I'm slipping into my second childhood.
Anybody else rediscovering the fun of the game with oldtime gear?

If you consider I still use my second decent camera after 33yrs, yes (Spotmatic).
And the main camera, 'though purchased recently, is an ESII - some 30yrs.

I know, I know, compared to some of you LF guys this may be brand new equipment...
