I just ordered one of these. Does anybody have any experience with one. Better yet, can anyone post pics taken with one? I've checked flickr, but that includes a lot of digital images.
I'm especially curious how "macro" it really is in practice.
I have it in both Nikon and Pentax K mounts, though I'm afraid I've used them only on APS-C sensor digital cameras. At least in that usage, the performance is very respectable for a lens of its vintage, and I'd expect it to do well on film.
Re "macro", I have the Nikon-mount one in hand right now and can tell you that the closest focus distance is marked as 0.18 meter, which is a hair over 7 inches.
It the the 24/2.8 you’re asking about? (There is a 24/1.8 as well, but it don’t think it uses the “Super Wide” moniker)
I have it in Pentax K format. I’ve generally like it, but I never done any in depth testing. It does have a tendency to flare and looses a lot of contrast when it does. That can actually look very nice for certain types of shots, but it’s very noticeable and tends to affect the entire image when it happens.
I had one (Nikon mount) several years ago - regarding the price (I paid around 60,- EURO) it was a nice lens in 'normal' light conditions.
I can remember mine sounded like a chainsaw when focussing. Closest focus distance was about 0,2 meters which is a nice to have.
Used the lens exclusively on D2x and D200 (DX-sensor) when shooting digital before I went back to 'analog only'.
I have the none AF Canon FD mount version it's a pretty good lens optically and focuses very close the lens barrel and controls are very plasticy and the aperture ring is a bit clunky but considering the price, it's a reasonably good lens.
