I've got some great old glass that came in a gutted #4 Compound, and I was wondering what my options are for mounting it into another shutter. Are the #4 Ilex/Acmes, exact matches for the #4 Compound shutter/barrel size? I'm not really interested in a Packard, and would prefer to have a synched shutter for studio work.

Barring any of the above, does anyone know where I might locate another decent #4 Compound?

The old American shutter threads don't match the European sizes.

Once in a great while Compound shutters are offered on ebay. An quicker way to get the shutter that you need is to look for the opposite of what you bought: a lens in bad condition, in a Compound IV shutter in good condition.

Hmmm...

I just bought a Compound #4 on ebay, thinking I would front-mount an old barrel lens on it. Or rear-mount a "landscape lens".

They're out there, but they're quite rare.

Tread sizes can be found in my article "The Bottom-feeder's Guide to German Lenses".

It's not the size of your shutter...It's how you use it. LOL

Actually, size does matter. Otherwise, you end up with f-stop envy.
