Copal shutters sometimes have female taper threads and sometimes female straight threads. I don't know what the pattern is. Full elegance would be to use a taper female thread with the taper male thread of the cable release, but cable releases thread just fine into the straight thread. Probably some of you have shutters with the straight thread and have never noticed.
The thread data is on the web at the site of the US distributor:
http://www.rtsphoto.com/html/copal2.html. The straight thread is 3.2 mm dia x 0.5 mm pitch. (Once 0.75 is listed, very likely a typo.) The taper thread is called out by referring to a standard: "Taper Screw JIS B7104-1971". I have no idea how to obtain that, or the tap for it.
Even a 3.2 mm tap probably isn't easy to find, but 3x0.5 is a standard size, which would probably clean up damaged threads on the straight threads. Or you could just buy the replacement part since it just screws on.
