Hi all, just got my SpeedGraphic and took some first shots.
Noticed that I need a cable release for the FP shutter to avoid vibration.
However, the shutter is rather stiff and it needs to be pushed quite far to release. My current cable is not able to do so.
I believe a cable with long and sturdy pin is needed.
Any recommendations?
Btw I am in China and hope that it ships here. Last post I checked on this website referred to Drahtausloeser in Germany which unfortunately only ships to Europe.

Besides, is a stiff FP shutter release normal? Shall I try to loosen it with lubs?

Thanks for the help!

While I'm not sure it makes a difference in this case, it might be helpful to know which model of Speed Graphic you have -- there are the Top Handle, pre-Anniversary, Anniversary, and Pacemaker models, and all have slightly different focal plane shutter releases.

Tape or glue a plug of wood or plastic between the release pin and the trigger so that your release does not have to travel so far to trigger a shot. Pva glue on metal seems like a reversible option . Haven’t done it myself on mine so maybe this is not good advise

Have your lens CLA'd to relieve the shutter stiffness. It will cost more money right now, but will be trouble free for several years.

The SpeedGraphic has a focal plane shutter so you can use barrel lenses etc that don't have their own shutter .

That's the shutter the OPs having an issue with rather than a lenses own shutter .

I have one of these cameras myself , but was able to find a cable release that was long enough to do the job by going to a camera shop that only deals with used gear and tried a couple of dozen until I found one that did the job .
It does need a bit of effort to fire the shutter , more than regular lens shutters or any SLR / TLR .
