Has anyone here tried Showkase (www.showkase.net) for their photo-centric website? I'm not sure it has everything one might require but the gallery and page creation options look good.
Yes, excess automation was one of my concerns. However as far as I can tell the package works with 'retina' displays automatically so a degree of resizing may be inevitable...
I think resized in this context doesn't mean cropped but rather the file size is optimized (resolution and compression). But I'd have to take a look at how they present images to see what if any cropping they might do.
At one point I had considered building a rather substantial website from which I could "plug-in" various content. However I'm coming around to a simpler solution for displaying images, with other sections as needed, rather than trying to integrate everything.
I've been using VisualServer for my static website hosting (which I'm just ok with - it's not bad, but not great) and WordPress for my blog, which I really like.
