Should I.. Or shouldn't I?

Hey guys,

The family and I are planning a trip to Greece in June. I really want to take my Leica and my Rolleiflex to take pictures. The question that I have is should I be worried about theft? Yes.. I realize there is always a looming threat anywhere. I guess I should ask has anyone travel to Greece with this type of gear and have any issues? We were lucky enough to go Rome in 2012 and I brought my Nikon F4 and my Mamiya C220 and never had an issue with anyone that looked like they were wanting to rip me off. Just a couple details on what I want to take. The two cameras that I mentioned... the Leica and the Rollei, I have a green Neo Geo backpack camera bag that looks like your ordinary back pack. What do you guys think?

Just insure them, and enjoy them on holiday.

As long as you are aware of your immediate surroundings there shouldn't be an issue and anyway if photographers were concerned about that we would never take any pictures.

I'm a guy who spent a fair amount of time on New York City subways going to and from Yankee Stadium with a 500mm lens on a Nikon F around my neck. And I have no clue on how safe or unsafe Greece is, but I would think about taking one camera or the other, not both.

Good advice that will serve you well anywhere.

I went to Nepal and China with Hasselblads, Leicas and a few different types of Nikons. (Once even with a Crown Graphic!) Never had an issue, even in crowded cities at nights...a big part of that, I think, is due to being aware of my cameras, keeping them near and being observant of my surroundings.
One thing that helped me with that was how I carried them, specifically my bags. I had good luck with a LowePro 'slingshot' type bag, the 200 if I recall correctly. Kept things close and secure and was easy to carry for long periods of time, too.

Lots of designs for bags out there, and with those two cameras you don't need a huge one, either.
