I'm about to buy a Howtek 4500 plus a Mac G3, and I'm trying to figure out how to get it packed and shipped from British Columbia to North Carolina. Anyone ever do something like this?

You need to have it strapped to a pallet - i.e. professionally packed. Also, before shipping, there is an internal function which locks the scanner for shipping - turn it on and scroll through the menu until you get to the option and hit enter. Don't muck around with improper packaging - I have a "parts" machine in pieces here because it was not properly packed. I'd also suggest contacting Aztek - they may have a shipping container available for purchase for your scanner.

That "shipping" position in the firmware is only in the later versions. I don't know which revision introduced it, but it was not on the R7 that came with the one I bought.

I waited until I found a machine that was within driving distance, as the costs and the risks of freight, particularly from another country, seemed too great. Drum-scanner shipping-damage stories abound.

Good luck!
