Uh-oh. My GAS is back.

I bought a Ricoh 500G and a Ricoh 35ZF from a board member a couple of weeks ago. Then....

This past Friday, I was laying in bed and I saw another posting on here for a Konica C35 Automatic. I turned to my wife (who was not examining the ceiling, Vince) and said, "Can I get this?" She asked how much. I told her and she said, "Sure."

I'm a happy, happy man and completely focused on the mailbox now.

Certainly no camera collection is complete without a Konica C35 Automatic.

I am wondering about all these camera collections the old members of Photrio have been and are continuing to assemble. Are the wives going to just pitch them when said members pass on. Maybe there ought to be a centralized Photrio repository that members can designate in their wills to get the cameras for redistribution to the young 'uns.

Oh really? I’m even happier I bought the C35 now.

The centralized Photrio repository is actually a great idea. That gets me thinking. My wife will certainly give my cameras away unless they are directed to be given to someone who would value them. Photrio? The local college photography department?

When I go, I will take them with me. Seriously I am writing out the present value and where to one can look to sell them and how what they offer, half price as places like KEH and closer to market value at websites and ebay.

Your post gave me an idea...

It should work like this: ebay should have a type an account where it requires 2 person approval to bid or make offers on something...

Otherwise I just do not know how to stop it.

I think every mechanical camera (and some AF nikons) -- are works of art.. so to me they are like paintings.

You have spend your adult life earning money to pay for things others needed or wanted. Now is your time. If you want it, if you will use it, if it will make you happy, then you should go ahead and buy it. That way you will enjoy it while you can, before your health changes.

Wise words indeed. I know plenty of people who played the "When I get ____________, I'm going to ______________ and then their health went south or worse. Live for today. And speaking of today....I had another gas attack and scored a nice old W.Rokkor 35mm lens off of ebay to stick on my SRT-101. Call it a birthday present.

Oh, and when I get rich and famous, I WILL be investing in Hasselblad gear. I told my wife that today so she's prepared.

But this will result in spending more on equipment -- because it'll make sniping impossible. You'd have to use eBay the way it was intended (at least for stuff on bids): enter your maximum, and just wait. And where's the excitement in that?

I'm at the stage where I'm selling off stuff that I'm simply not using.

I just gave a nice Ricoh SLR with a bunch of lenses to our neighbour for the mostly symbolic price of 25€. She'll be gifting the camera to her sister who is getting into photography. Good for her, if I'm not using it someone else might as well.

My s.o. appreciates the decluttering but also, as long as I pay enough attention to her she is not fussed about me buying the odd camera here and there.

I've never had GAS. But I do seem to have gremlins: they sneak into my house at night and fill up the empty spaces on my shelves with cameras. And they built a workbench in my study and filled it up with screwdrivers and strange devices and gadgets and bottles full of strange-smelling chemicals. And did the same in my kitchen too. But I never had GAS.

Better check, those are also known for emptying your savings and retirement accounts (and sometimes your refrigerator).

Yes, I've tried that one too but I'm married to an accountant who is VERY adept at financial issues, especially taxes and investing. I point out that the 1959 Volvo that I bought in 1977 for $800 was a good investment as it is worth more now. When I tell her what I could sell it for, she points out that the $800 put into an index fund would have done much better. I can't complain since a year a half ago when I said I wanted to buy a brand new motorcycle, she said "Go buy it."

She does run the household books like a business and every cent is tracked by what it was spent on. At the end of the year she produces a report that shows, among other things, what I spent on my hobbies, interests, and passions. They are never an issue and the only question I ask is "I don't have to go back to work, do I?"

To explain how bad the GAS is .. I thought of buying all the Nikkormats (FT and FT2) ever manufactured -- that's about 30-40$ mln.
And somewhere deep in subconsciousness I even justified it ... as a great business decision.

So there needs to be something else (and not a distractive/disturbing malignant event), my weaking will-power may not be enough

I can relate. I’ve got a head start on cornering the Nikon N75 market and the Konica Auto S2 market, and the Olympus XA2 market and the Pentax Zoom 90WR market and….. You’d need a ladder to see over my inflation hedge.
