Sharpening and resampling (downsampling)

Hi all,

I have a question I hope someone can help me with. I'll use an example to better explain my question. I have a drum scanned 8x10 positive scanned at 1317x1317 ppi making the entire image at 10500×8398. If I print this at aproxomately A2 (It is a portrait so I will have some room over and under on the paper I will cut off) this means I will have a dpi at about 600. However when preparing this for print including sharpening - is it so that it is better to resample the image to about 360 dpi ppi. This means reducing the total size to about 5900x4799 pixles if I understand this correctly. What is best practice for best looking prints? I sharp with GIMP and the High Pass filter and print with an Epson SureColor P800.

I'm assuming you're printing on Epson, based on the 360 dpi stated. Personally, I'd print at 720 vs any re-sampling. My general rule when down-sampling is: Use Bicubic Smoother, if I've already sharpened the image or use Bicubic Sharper, then apply output sharpening.

Sorry - it should say 360 ppi. I print at 2880 dpi. I only really sharpen for printing.

Yeah, I figured...I just wanted to use the same terminology that you were using. Therefore, 720 ppi.
