Our Region has been fairly quiet lately. Wondered if anyone has any outings planned here at the end of Fall or into Winter?

Up here in Minnesota we usually do a jaunt up to the Lake Superior North Shore every fall, and sometimes in the winter. This year, the autumn plans fell through, regretfully. So it goes sometimes.

The Allegan outing is on Nov. 21 and will be focused on an old power plant to which we have been granted access, plus the possibility of access to an abandoned furniture factory and maybe a 1930's movie theater in the vicinity. Plus, of course, whatever we stumble upon when we get there. No word yet on where we'll met up Saturday morning but it's usually a local restaurant and our crowd usually, ah, sticks out, so to speak.

This sounds like a premium event. If I could postpone my son's birthday I'd be there. Keep the deails flowing

The Midwest Large Format Asylum (www.MidwestLargeFormat.com) is gathering in Allegan, Michigan (USA) on Saturday November 21st, 2015 for photography, conversation, looking at prints and whatever else happens. The group will meet for breakfast at "Our Family Restaurant" located at 110 Hubbard St. in Allegan. Further details from one of the outing's organizers:

-------------------------------------------------------------

"My thought about some photos prior to breakfast would be the downtown area in Allegan. This has maintained a flavor of turn of the century architecture with a number of interesting opportunities. The area is small, about 3 blocks either way you look, and from past experience, not a lot of people at 7:00am on a Saturday morning. It starts getting sufficient light to shoot a little after 7:00, so I suggest those who want to shoot prior to breakfast meet in front of the "Regent Theater" , with a 1940's style marquee located at 211 Trowbridge.

The plan is breakfast at 9:00, followed by a couple of hours of shooting in the old generating plant, then lunch, and a couple of hours in an abandoned furniture manufacturing plant . The furniture plant is not totally confirmed at this point, but all things look favorable that we will have access. As soon as I hear, I will let everyone know. The times mentioned by the way are all "Eastern Time" zone."

------------------------------------------------------------

The Midwest Large Format Asylum is a loosely unorganized pack of photographers based in and around the generically defined "Midwest" part of the United States. As a group our preferred photographic tool is the large format or "view" camera but deluded practitioners of lesser status are minimally tolerated as long as they don't incur our wrath by urging us to "go faster" or by making fun of folks who consider a good day to be three negatives exposed. Transgressors will be brutally taunted regarding the small size of their... negatives. Beards optional.

Outings are organized on the third weekend of the month, or more often if thought to be entertaining. Anyone can come to an outing subject to the "no harassment" provision outlined above. Folks coming from a distance sometimes elect to stay overnight somewhere or another and get an early start and occasionally get together Friday night for dinner, conversation, preliminary taunting (just for practice,) of small format photographers and maybe some late photography (although the last is unlikely this time of year, when night falls at 5:30 PM although, to be honest, photographs have been taken with multi-hour exposures.) Most communication regarding these events takes place on the Asylum's website (see above as I'm too lazy to type it in again and yes, I know, it would have been fewer characters had I just typed the thing. It's the principle, doggon it!) Go ahead and register for the Forum; there's no monetary cost and the only real requirement is to pledge everlasting loyalty and support for the Chicago Bears football team and no we won't mention again that they've won one (1) whole game this year. Just tell Frank that the Bears are good and Green Bay is bad and he'll let you in.

1 game, Frank: ONE GAME! *Sigh*

Where was I? Anyway, if you're in the neighborhood feel free to stop in, even if you don't use a view camera.
