Anyone tried it yet?

Any chance it's the Orwo NC500 film that went for conversion to China and never made it back to the customers that preordered it... 😱?

What is interesting, at least to me, is that in the fifth picture down, it appears to have "movie camera perforations," rather than "still camera perforations." I wonder if it is re-packaged movie film, without the remjet.

Yes, that's interesting for sure. Their examples look far too grainy for Vision3 250D however - the likely candidate for a cine-derived '400' film.

Honestly, I didn't look at the examples, after I saw the perforations. But, you're right, the samples they show are quite grainy.

Well, maybe I can figure something out once I receive it and give it a try. Although I expect other people will be quicker, so I'm going to stay tuned for updates!

I've bought one.But I don't have a free 35mm camera to shoot it.That might be an ORWO film because the company who owns Shanghai brand, has coorperated with ORWO for a long time.I will taste it after this Pancro. Both of them have violent grains. But it's even more expensive than ORWO,except for trying,no reason I can find that makes me willing to buy it.

Feedback may post when I process and scan. Some of my group members may have used it,I can ask them.

Sorry,I don't bring it to school so I can't take a photo. But I found a picture that shows its emulsion side.
I will show it in person if I go back home this weekend.

Again,I apologize for letting down your expectation.
Please do, we'd love to hear (and please also do encourage them to join all of us here on Photrio!)
I will, and I also hope that they could be willing to come to Photrio. Most of them are more experienced than me.Totally,it's a rookie that I am.

Thanks!

The emulsion side looks pretty much the same colour as that of Orwo NC500.

My friend just used a roll.
I think it's the same as the NC500, with lower color saturation and separation.

From left to right:
NC500 NC400 Shanghai(Shenguang)400

Comparing Shanghai's emulsion with NC series,I think It's NC400 that re-pack by JC Film Co Ltd.

Anyway, this film is $0.4 more expensive than Shanghai.

20240412_131311.jpg

InovisCoat's film cartridges are recycling so in this way,Shanghai's expense is acceptable because JC Film use new cartridges.Under NC400's sticker,it's a cartridge made in China that had been sold with 5207 film. That 5219 sticker is designed by me,as to imitate Portra. They share same cartridge design.

20240412_132438.jpg

JC Film had produced new cartridges but flaws in manufacturing processes are everywhere.I don't mind them, anyway.

Additionally,in my point of view,NCs' and Shanghai's designs may be not perfect enough,a practical cartridge should like Kodak's,whose info can be see from the window of cameras' back.

I've not been able to give this a go yet. I placed my order for two rolls on 8 April. It apparently was shipped at 17 April. Currently it should be at our local postal service and should be delivered soon. I expect it will be hit with clearance fees and taxes, which would mean each roll would end up costing me around €25 or so, LOL.

So regardless what film this is, it's not really an option unless you purchase it in China.

By contrast, Reflx Lab also operates from China, but managed to get me my film within a week and handled duties & taxes. Seems like these Shanghai guys have a long way to go still if they want to play a role at the international level.

Okay, I'm going to take back what I said above!

The very same day, my film arrived in the mail (yes, on Sunday, which is uncommon here). Also, no invoice for fees or taxes, so far, either!

According to the general terms of delivery, taxes are not included in the price. The lack of tax may be due to a specific customs official, the "Chinese" layout declaration or they simply included the tax without mentioning it. But even without duty and VAT, I would not make such an order...

Hey!My film has already been processed.Edge printing of the film is ''Shenguang''.Not ORWO's.And its printing quality is not good.
I'm doubting that it is indeed a NC400 because its base is special yellow-green.

Please pay attention to its base whose material is really soft, that can be scratched by air blower.

Some examples here,without color adjustment.

Thanks; those actually look kind of nice - are we looking at scans from negatives, or scans of optical enlargements from negatives?

It's always risky to interpret online images, but the first two images seem to suggest low saturation, probably due to a large amount of crossover between the channels.

Thanks also for the heads up about the soft emulsion; I never fry film with forced air, but I take your comment as indicative of how soft the emulsion is.

Just scans.I found it hard to do enlargement.Analyzer could hardly deal with the maskless film.Maybe put another unexposed normal film above it can let printing easier.I will try later.

Well in fact, the emulsion is OK,I mean its base.Head of blower carelessly touched film base slightly when I blowed dusts and a unclearable scratch appeared. This situation had never happened on any film I use.Strange.

Yeah, that often helps with maskless film. I don't use an analyzer, but I can imagine how it gets confused in this case.

I mean its base

OK, gotcha. That's odd. You'd expect the film base to be pretty sturdy. Although some types do scratch more easily than others. I'll be careful!

My ORWO (well, technically they call it Wolfen NC500) had no edge printing and base looked like what you are showing here.

I never shot NC400 so I don’t know if it is masked or not (99% sure it’s not), but curious what makes you think Shanghai 400 can’t be Orwo NC500 or NC400?

Yes NC500 it is,my mistake.Comparing with NC500,their bese look the same.I thought it NC400 because of the comparation before process. My NC400's base is indeed browner and has higher saturation of red.

It's just a irresponsible speculation.JC Film doesn't tell any detail.

(Oh no,no difference between these two.)
