Series VI Adaptor Question

I recently landed a Series VI adaptor and Series VI-A lens hood for my Bantam Special. Both appear unused and the adaptor is extremely tight to push onto the lens and when it eventually goes on, removing it is even more difficult.

Any tips or tricks to help make it easier to attach and remove? TIA

I am imagining it is a ring with fingers that slips over the front on the camera's lens.

If it were me, I would take a pair of needle nose pliers and very gently and gradually push out the fingers. Go around once, try it on. Repeat as needed.

The Kodak instructions for the adapter is to gently bend the tabs in-or-out for a proper fit. From experience... GENTLY. It takes very little adjustment of the tabs if you have the correct sized adapter. Be careful not to make it too loose or it might fall off whilst in use.

EDIT: I was hoping to post a scan of the actual instruction sheet but can't put muy hands on it at the moment. I recall that it stated plus/minus .5mm in the tab bending statement. I know I've bent more when couldn't get exactly the correct size. Haven't broken a tab yet but since they are aluminum that's a possiblility after a couple of bends.

Thank you guys. Bending was the option I was thinking would need to take place, but as you stated Brian, with it being aluminium I was a little concerned as to whether it could take the needle nose pliers method.

I'll attempt this weekend and be as gentle as possible; admittedly sometimes I don't know my own strength so iy could be a challenge!

A small adjustable wrench may be a better tool than pliers to control the bending. Perhaps you can find online an adapter ring that fits better or screws into the Bantam's lens. The 1948 Kodak Reference Handbook mentions a 15/16 slip-on or 23.5 series V screw-in adapter for the Anastar 48mm f/4.5 lens. Step-up adapters for V to VI should be available online.

Hi Jim. Based on incomplete information, this might be what @oxphoto is working with. A bit bigger than what you cite. At least, that's what I assumed based on the Series filter and hood sizes mentioned.

"extremely tight fit" is rather normal, in my experience, for a correctly sized Series adapter. More often than not, I've had to hand-fit for the best fit.

Depends on the adapter size. Kodak Series adapter rings, even for the Series VI ones, came in a wiide range of sizes (31.5 to 42mm)
