Series 6 filter carry hack

For some time I've been searching for a compact way to carry a few Series 6 filters and a push-on adapter when I'm out with my Perkeo II or Ercona II. A while back I realized that the small B+W filter box (search for BWFBS at B&H) is a good fit for an adapter - after removing one of the two full-size foam pieces from the bottom of a new small-size box the lid closes easily. But it wasn't until today that I found a solution for additional filters beyond the one I sometimes keep in the adapter.

B+W to the rescue again - the medium size box (search for BWFBM at B&H) holds four filters like it was made to do so. It's a bit too high inside so the filters can move around a little but adding a square of cardboard under the foam fixes this. I use a couple of rubber bands as insurance to make sure it stays closed when I want it to.

That apparent mark on the blue filter is just a reflection.

If you trade that Perkeo in for a Bessa 66, it comes with a built in holder for series v filters.

I like the way that the four filters fit in that snap lid box. Excellent. What I use are the old Leitz Wetzlar snap lid clear filter holders. They have a slot on the side so you can slide several of these holders together.

Picture? I’ve never seen those.

Very nice. I carry mine in separate Kodak filter cases. A real nuisance. I like your idea!

Here they are. Leitz supplied Series VI and 39mm filters in these little cases many years ago. The plastic is flexible and has proven to be durable. You can slip as many together as you want. The two sticks of three fit upright in my Domke F6 bag between the canvas and the insert.

My series VI filters reside in the clear Kodak hard plastic cases which bayonet together forming a stack.

I am on my fourth iteration for carrying Bay 1 filters for my Yashica TLR and the most recent is indeed the square filter case. B&H has/had a selection of sizes and they are inexpensive. I exercised an Exacto knife and carved up some scraps of craft foam to customize the interior.


The previous iteration was a $$$ two sided fancy tackle box which I cut through the divider in one corner so my metal lens hood would fit in. It accommodates four filters plus a two-part +1 c;loseup set plus the lens shade.


It nicely holds everything Bay 1 that I own, but partly because of the fancy rounded corners reducing the usable interior space, it is not useful for a simple pocket carry. Prior to that I had a couple of passes on smaller fishing fly containers which were at best OK, but didn't hold enough.

(Sorta like camera bags -- one winds up with a barn full trying to find a perfect solution. )
