Hi,

i am searching for a solution to get extended time beyound the 1 sec for exposure on my 4x5.

Are there timers that can work for example until 30 secs. that are capable of connecting to a lens with a cord and work like pressing a cord knob for x seconds?

Willie Jan,

I have one of those prontor long timers, up to 32 seconds if I'm not mistaken.
You can attach an extention cable release on them so you won't create camera shake.

I got it quite cheap at a second hand shop.

Greetings,

Me too, but they're hard to find and not significantly more accurate than counting seconds, especially if they're old and gummy.

It's just like shutters: make sure they are OK before you buy.
Not that I use the gizmo a lot, rather seldom.

Have you seen that Joel Meyerowitz video promo for HP that's been making the rounds lately, where he talks about shooting different formats and how 35mm is improvisational like jazz and LF is slow and contemplative, and then it shows a composition of a tree trunk and a wooden field camera set up, and cuts to a shot of Meyerowitz pressing the cable release as he mouths the words, "one-thousand-one, one-thousand-two..."?
