I made 2 copies on Ilford warmtone FB paper. I toned both in a mild selenium bath. One of them got brown spots on the highlights. It looked like something on the paper reacted with the selenium.
They had both been in the same developer, stop, fixer and wash. Very peculiar. Any idea what kind of mistake I made?

Dead fix? Did you hypo check your fixer? Do you use a two bath fix system?

Search here for selenium toning. There is lots (and I mean lots!) of info about what could have gone wrong.

Short version: incomplete fixing or too acid a fixing solution before the toner.

Do the research. I takes time but is worth it. No excuse not to... it'll save you time and money in the long run.

Ok. Thanks. Most likely I did not fix long enough. It was at the end of a long(ish) session in the darkroom and I must have goofed up the fixing.
