Yes, in my experience with this paper, fresh KRST at 1-9 will give a hint of plumb/ purple, though it is not too ugly.

I found that Kentmere RC VC Select didn't tone very well. Selenium was, as Stoo says, just a hint. It also didn't tone very well with Kodak Sepia II. For straight prints I thought the Kentmere was very nice.
I've been using Foma Fomaspeed Variant III VC RC when I want to tone. I'm also considering working with Adox MCP310 VC RC. I tried a few sheets of that and things look promising.

My experience is the same as Stoo's. But I would describe it as just plain gorgeous as opposed to "not too ugly"!
I'm using the Ilford Selenium toner 1+9.

Yes, Johnny, I would totally agree with you, though on the particular prints in question, archival permanence was all that I was after, so the colour change was not desired, though quite nice and acceptable.

As an aside, if you read this Johnny, I have heard that you get browner hues with the Ilford Selenium, as apposed to the plumbs that you get with KRST. Would this be correct?

Thanks in advance

On re-reading this thread I realize I've committed a sin which really p*sses me off when others do it: I didn't read the opening post carefully enough. I haven't toned the RC paper, I was referring to the Fineprint VC, a fibre paper. If I could remember John Clease's apology in "A Fish Called Wanda" I would recite it.
Alternatively, I could try a variation of what a friend of mine did years ago when he got so drunk at a party he couldn't remember it. A week later the attendees at the party received a card from him which said, "If I've done anything I should be sorry for, I'm willing to be forgiven".
I haven't noticed any brown hues with the Fineprint, just lovely deeper blacks with a slight plummy tone - but that's not the paper you asked about. I have a bottle of KRST, but haven't cracked it yet.
Anyway, my humble abject apologies!

Thanks Johnny.

Incidentally, both the RC and the Fibre are not too far apart in fresh selenium, though the RC struggles a bit as the selenium has more use, though I constantly refresh mine.
