Seeing Spots!

I finally figured out how to scan a negative and got a bit of a surprize...spots!

The entire negative is covered with tiny black spots. They don't appear to be uniform or in any sort of a pattern. I can't believe that they're normal.

Has anyone seen this before? What's the cause and how do I correct?

Looks like dust spots on the scanner? I had to take one of my scanners apart and clean the back side of the glass because dust had got into it, I presume the negative does not show these spots when looking at it?

Must be dust. If you've scanned a negative the dust will be white which will then appear black when you convert it to a positive image just as it would from a negative in the enlarger to positive print. And boy is yours ever dusty!

I've had the very same thing happen to several of my negatives, but no scanner involved. I read about bubbles forming in the developer (I've been doing stand and semi-stand in PCAT-HD)--could this be bubbles? ....tiny bubbles.....

Pre-soak

The elimanation of bubbles is why a lot of us do a presoak, I use 5:00 presoak with constant agitation on all my films and have never had a problem with air bells, try it. Pat

i do a 5 min presoak, then rap the tank sharply a few times......
