I have a Minolta Dimage Scan Multi scanner which uses a SCSI interface. Has anybody here used an SCSI to firewire (or SCSI to USB adapter, if such a thing exists) with SCSI scanners, and would they recommend one?

I have an ADAPTEC SCSI card in an older computer that I could move to my newer computer, but I would prefer not to install the card because I don't like the longer boot-up sequence.

The older computer uses Windows Professional. The newer computer uses Windows XP Media edition.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Yep! It can be done but it's not cheap. Look for the Ratoc SCSI to USB adapters, $100 to $120.

I beleive there is also a SCSI to Firewire adapter if that suits your needs.

I have limited experience, so take this with "a grain of salt"...... make sure it is returnable. I tried both of the SCSI to USB cable adapters available (?3 years ago?) at Frys and neither would work between a Umax scanner and a Mac.

Found a cheap cardbus card that would work with my old PC laptop, now that card is dying... it is REALLY time I bought a new scanner!!!

Thanks Tom for the "heads-up". The Ratoc website does specifically indicate that both adapters they offer are compatible with my scanner, although I always take that with "a grain of salt" too.

Unfortunately, the newer replacements for the scanner I have (Nikon 8000 or Nikon 9000, et al) are pretty pricey, so I'd prefer to keep using the one I have.

Personally I think firewire is more dependable, so that would be my choice in adapters. I have not used the Ratoc SCSI to FW adapter but many people use them with their drum scanners.

I know several people who use the Ratoc adapters and they are very reliable.
