Hi
I’ve been having some difficulty locating the best screwdriver set to remove the screen hood on my Yashica Mat Tlr, they are pan headed and ideally a magnetic set might make life easier.
Many thanks
Ben

I use this for pretty much everything that involves small screws and whatnot:

You can find it and similar kits by searching for "JOREST precision screwdriver set". There will be plenty of Amazon and eBay links. Price is around $10 if you shop around a bit.
These are not magnetic though.

Thanks for that I’ll check them out, to hold the screw to the driver I often use a tiny bit of super glue as my hand is not the steadiest.

The issue with the screws holding the hood on a YashicaMat (and many other TLRs) is that they are very close to the vertical wall of the hood when it is open, and that the hood front panel will come down and cover the screws when closed.

A long skinny screwdriver helps a lot with this. Not sure what is in your part of the world. In the US, Ace Hardware stores sells a set like this-

Long and skinny, with a thin body. You may still find yourself tilting at the front ones that are a bit under the top part tilted forward!

I use a Wera set for precisely this reason—long thin shafts that reach into difficult spaces. I think they’re made in Germany, and am assuming the OP is in the UK. They also come in Japanese crosspoint configurations.

+1 That is what I use for slotted screw heads. Wera 11800x. Do not skip sizes in a series; it is important to have a good fit between the slot width and the blade width.

For cross head screws, I recommend Wiha PicoFinish 261P. I have #0, #00, and #000. The smallest does not get much use. The PicoFinish improves the grip between the screwdriver; when attempting to loosen a tight screw, each failed attempt degrades your chances of success.

If you want to magnetize your screwdriver just touch it to a large magnet for a few seconds.

I was looking at this same set and noticed that according to the site , it mentions "magnetic tip". When you ordered your set , did it mention the tips are magnetic ? I just want to make sure before I order one. Thanks.

Cross head screws might be phillips screwheads, but if it is a Yashica or other Japanese camera, it is more likely they are JIS screwheads.
And the two different types need different screwdrivers.

I think the 'magnetic tip' refers to the bits sticking into the holder, after which you can screw the holder tight so it grips the bit. The bits are not magnetic in the sense that screws will stick to them. IDK if they can be magnetized; I've not tried this. I honestly don't know what the ad said when I bought this kit; it was a €10 purchase. I didn't pay much attention; it looked nice and it turned out to work quite well, too.

I like the iFixit ones, good quality and they're magnetic.

There are at least 10 different cruciform screw drives. As noted in post 11, most cruciform-drive screws used on products from Asia (cameras, lenses, motorcycles, etc.) in modern times use the JIS (Japan Industrial Standards) cruciform-drive sockets.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Japanese_Industrial_Standards

If you choose the wrong tool, you can ruin the screw-drive socket, the tool, or both.

See the paragraph headed JIS B 1012 in the following Wikipedia article:
