Schneider-Kreuznach Technika Super-Angulon 65mm F8: Image Circle anyone?

hi, i am looking at this lens for a 4x5 camera, no movements whatsoever. i know the regular schneider super ang. 65mm f8 does not cover 4x5 but i cant find any info on the technika version of the lens, is there any difference in coverage? ive looked all over and am going crazy becuase its like specs for this lens dont exist.

The 65mm f8 SA does cover 5x4 just, I've been using one for about 20 years. However according to Schneider it covers 9x12, but then their technical data is only given in Continental European sizes not UK/US.

Mine's a Linhof select version, there's no differences other than Linhof were able to pick based on their own tests.

I have one as well and can confirm Ian's post. It just covers 4x5", and the only attraction of the Technika labeled one is that it was tested and selected by Linhof, and was at the time of the test possibly better than other examples of the same lens produced at the same time.

If you are lucky, you may be able to find the original center filter for this lens. It does exist, but it was years before I saw one come up for sale. There is probably a generic center filter from Heliopan that you could use instead, if you wanted one.

well the upside to the one i am looking at, is that it comes with a helical focusing mount, the schneider one i believe. the price is a little hefty though for the package. whats a reasonable price for the lens alone? i already know the price for a focusing mount.

I think a maximum of $200 if in a Compur 00 shutter, a tough more for a more modern Multi-coated version in a Copal 0.

shucks, theyre asking for 799 with the lens + focusing mount. and it is in a Compur 00 shutter. this is a picture of it.

That's over priced, there's a UK seller with 2 but his prices are rather inflated for all LF items often 2-3 times reputable dealers. There's another for £190 Buy it Now in what looks like a more modern Compur shutter.

I have one I paid £20 for. I had to make my own focusing mount though (link to 6x12 camera below).

I intend to use mine on a 5x4 camera too with no movements.

steve, you are the person ive been looking for! you commented on a thread i linked to in another thread, lol, about reccomending making a focusing mount. well, i bought a 50mm olympus 1.8 and took it apart. now im lost. i guess i am going the same route as you although finding a schneider technika lens with the newer shutter is quite difficult, none on ebay now except the one for 799 that i found. which shutter does yours have?

do you have any detailed explanation of making the focusing mount. i searched all over the internet for it and you're the only guy who kept popping up.

Mine has the smaller shutter which I have to send away for repair as one of the shutter blades fell out. This could be an advantage for you as it means I can take some pictures of the modified Olympus lens for you to look at and compare with yours.

I bought the Olympus lens on the recommendation of someone else who had done the same thing but it turns out that mine was not the same as his and it was easier to convert mine. His needed extra light-proofing and I think he had to reverse the helix whereas mine stayed as it was built.

I think you should just take it apart slowly and see what you are left with. You should end up with the half of the lens closest to the body mount (which you remove) then there is a bit of metal cutting and filing and you will need to make a lens board which mounts on the helix.

If you look at the last picture on my page you will see that all you are left with is the bit encased by the focusing ring.

steve, thank you. the problem i am having taking apart the lens if removing the piece you showed in image #3, the silver part with the screw thread that goes inside of the focus mount and moves in and out, for the life of me, i can detach it from the glass elements. the rest seems pretty simple/

You need to get rid of all the glass parts and the aperture mechanism first. I think most of the glass parts are hels in with thin threaded rings.

I think I started from the front. The bit which holds the front element in is the ring with all of the text around it. This is threaded into the same thread which a filter screws into. A small sharp watch makers screwdriver is sometimes useful here to push the ring round. Remember, you're not going to be putting it back together so a few scratches and marks don't matter.

From the back, I think it's three screws to remove the lens mount then probably three more to remove the aperture mechanism.

the text ring, in the front, seems to be my problem area, i have the rear completely off, but that black ring with the text on it does nto want to come off.
