Hi,

I just heard on another forum that the Schneider APO f4 45mm was better than the 40mm and 50mm versions. I want to replace the 40mm Focotar on my Leitz Focomat V35 with a better lens. I know the autofocus will be affected but I'm not concerned about it. Any thoughts? Thanks!

I have a Schneider APO Componon f4 45mm that I use for 35 mm film. I rarely use it nowadays, and have not tested it head on to other lenses. I can say that it is very good and I have not used a better enlarging lens for that film format. I have never used the Leica Focotar. The price premium for Apo Componon is significant nowadays. You can get a Nikkor for $20 on Ebay. But I assume that if you are using Leica equipment that you sweat the details so go for it.
