I was in a local thrift store the other day and notice a small box marked "Schneider" inside of which is/was a loupe that looked like the attached image -- I believe it had a string also attached to it. I did not buy it as I do not have a use for it myself, but when I got home I read bit about it and found that it is usually used for judging focusing on a ground glass, and I saw that these often sell for upwards of $70-80 or more. (I didn't test to see if it has a helicoid to move the elements in and out for focusing, but I think that's standard on this device.).
The store is selling it for $40. I can go back to the store on Monday morning April 17. If you want me to buy it and send it to you for that amount (plus postage to your address), please let me know by Sunday evening; I'll make the purchase, and send it to you, and you can pay me back the $40 + postage. I don't need to make anything on the deal -- I just hate to see a nice piece of glass sit unused and un-appreciated for what it is!
FYI, I'm in Virginia, if you want to mull over possible postage costs. This thing can't weigh more than a few ounces, so postage should be minimal. FYI, if someone wants it, I'll give it a closer examination, including checking the elements with a flashlight; if I think there's a problem with it I'll probably pass on it as I doubt anyone would want a compromised loupe.
