Hey folks! I've been having a lovely experience scanning negatives with my Plustek for awhile now. I have wanted to make the jump to slides (I have 3 rolls of Provia that haven't left the refrigerator since 2001) and am concerned about the lack of information online about scanning slides with these types of desktop scanners. The only things I have heard is that color reproduction (even in RAW TIFFs) are generally not very good. However, if this is something that can be easily corrected in photoshop, it would be incredibly easy to have my negative on my light table and just look back and forth, making adjustments accordingly.
Does anyone have experience scanning slides with your Plustek? Any tips or results you would like to share?

No experience with the Plustek, but in general, slides are easier to scan in terms of accurate/pleasing/satisfactory color rendition than color negative. Put differently: people often struggle with color balancing when scanning color negatives, but slides tend to be pretty much a WYSIWYG situation.

Any tips or results you would like to share?

Yeah, just get cracking! It'll work out fine I'm sure.

Totally agree with Koraks above! My experience is that slides are child’s play compared to negatives….. just look at the thread below this one for evidence:

Agree with others, especially since you have dedicated film scanner it should be a walk in the park

As others have mentioned, scanning the transparencies should go fine and work well. Just make sure you configure the correct settings for color transparency film in your scanning software.

The Plustek OpticFilm 8200i Ai even comes with a LaserSoft Imaging IT8 calibration target if you want to go the color managed route specifically intended for color transparency film.

I have used the OpticFilm 8100 with an IT8 calibration target bought separately and made the profile with ArgyllCMS, but if you are using the included SilverFast software then you can also do all of the preparation right in that program.
