Hello everyone,

I'm looking to scan a couple of my black and white darkroom prints for use on my personal website.
I've never done this before and have little to no idea which scanner/software combination would be best for the job. The prints in question aren't large at all, only 24 x 18 centimeters.

I'm on a budget, I'm willing to spend 250 Euros tops, is that enough for a decent setup?

Does anybody have experience with this they could share?

Thank you very much in advance

Greetings
Mike

Almost any scanner made in the last few decades should be good enough. Perhaps using a digital camera to photograph your prints would be easier. Remember, image quality on a web site is not nearly as critical as it is in a good print.

If you only need a couple of scans perhaps find someone that would do it for you is better.

My last experience w/ this went against what I was thinking it should be. We had to keep the scanner resolution way down, think 200-300 PPI. At higher resolutions it was magnifying the surface of the paper itself, looked pretty bad. It's not a film negative.

I have had good luck "scanning" prints for the internet with my iPhone X. (The Notes app has an amazingly good scan function )

The advantage of a scanner over a phone is that with the phone you have to deal with lighting and reflection issues.

For scanning flatwork, I use a hand-me-down Epson V500 and the Epson software that I downloaded from their site. It also has the ability to scan film and transparencies 35mm and 120).
