I've picked up scans from the lab today, and suddenly I find myself blown away by the quality. The thing is that last time I had a similar assignment, I used another lab, and when I put my two sets of pictures side by side, I see a great discrepancy in quality. But I'm not sure if that's because my exposure and light control was more careful this time, or whether it's because the person doing the scanning did a much better job.

Here's my lighting setup: one Bowens in a 24x36 softbox on one side, and a large foamcore reflector on the other side. Metering is done via a Minolta Auto Meter, in cord mode. The film is Kodak E100G. Both rolls were bought together, and should be of the same batch.

The picture on the left was processed by a lab which normally uses a Frontier; the other one by a lab which uses a Noritsu.

Unless for some weird reason I got scanned on a dedicated film scanner at the Frontier lab, I can't explain the discrepancy in quality.

After verification in the JPEG headers info, the first file was effectively scanned on a Frontier.
