Who knows if the latest nonsense about TMZ-3200 and TXP-320 being discontinued is true or not.

Regardless, we all have an opportunity to buy some and get $5 back with a rebate: http://www.kodak.com/global/plugins/acrobat/en/professional/products/films/bw/BWFilm_5Rebate09.pdf

I used the Ektar rebate, and it came within a couple of weeks.

Do we really want to see Kodak's b&w films go bye-bye like their paper did a few years ago? They can take away E6 films and justify it due to the dwindling popularity recently, but b&w? Let's show them we care.

Personally, I'm going to buy one roll of each type between now and "International Film Buying Day": http://www.flickr.com/groups/internationalfilmbuyingday/

TMAX 100
TMAX 400
TMAX 3200
Plus-X 125
Tri-X 320
Tri-X 400

If everyone who uses Kodak b&w products does this, it will make a difference.

Photographers will thank us in 20 years time for keeping the B&W films alive.

Save Kodak B&W film, use the rebate

This is a great offer.Too bad it is restricted to the U.S. only !!!!.What about the rest of the photogs in the world who want to do their part in keeping analog photography alive.Don't we count for our efforts???

Doug:confused:

ROLLS ONLY

Give them a call and check. I remember on one of the previous rebates TXP wasn't listed and someone called and verified that in fact it was included. Could be the same with sheet film.

This will not work at all. If everyone buys at the same time, they will also create a drop in sales as the money runs out. This will cause the film to be discontinued for sure. Boom and Bust never did anyone good.

If you really want to help, purchase consistently. That will allow Kodak to properly adjust it's production accordingly. This would be the real problem.

Has it occurred to anyone that maybe the axe has already fallen and they might just be trying to dump what they do have? I don't think there was any doubt on their part for discontinuing Kodachrome; Economics-101

That aside, what happens if you actually like the "other guys stuff"? Are you not doing them a disservice for creating a product you like? Why would I have bought Kodachrome when I preferred Velvia?

This whole "panic buying" thing is not doing any good as what will be left is what will actually get used. If you use it they will still make it; period. Just do what you always did and what you use will always be there. If I give away money "just because" I would rather it feed someone than clear out a warehouse. Remember Kodak is a business not a charity.

Rant over.....

How could using the rebate and buying 5 rolls between now and year's end do that?

Or maybe you're referring to "International Film Buying Day". Personally, I'm not buying on that date, for reasons similar to what you suggest above, but I WILL buy 5 rolls (actually 6 counting TXP-320) of Kodak B&W film and use the rebate between now and that date. This is coming from someone who still hasn't tried the new TMY-2 TMAX 400.

TMZ better not go away.

I actually bought 5 rolls today. I'm in luck.

When I read the title of this thread, I thought you were exposing your image not just onto the usual film area, but also onto the edge, the rebate.

Rather than speculate which films have or have not been discontinued, I called Kodak and had them verify the status of the films in question. As speculated E100GX has been discontinued in all sizes. The following film is still being manufactured:

TMZ 135-36 #1516798
Plus-X 135-24 #1515428
Plus-X 135-36 #8793606
Plus-X 135x100 #8024804
Plus-X 120 #8570044
Tri-X 320 120 Pro Pack #8188914
BW400CN 135-24 #8059370
BW400CN 135-36 #1629617
BW400CN 120 #8358160
Portra 160NC 70x100 Unperforated #1154509
EPY 64T 135-36 #8602492
EPY 64T 120 #1201292
EPY 64T 4x5 10 sheet #1225424
EPY 64T 4x5 50 sheet #1208263
EPP 135-36 #1272368
EPP 120 Pro Pack #1942697
E100G 4x5 10 sheet #8960312
E100G 4x5 50 sheet #1618081
EDUPE 120 135x100 #1952837

All these films are still available, so stop fear mongering.

Surely Tmax has been left out of the list by mistake?

I bought 20 rolls of Tmax400 today, along with 20 rolls of Acros. Hey Fuji, where's the rebate?

Well, use the rebate regardless. It can only help (you save $ while Kodak gets a record of what everyone bought).

Funny joke about the edge of the film.

Well, I guess TXP-320 in 220 is gone (though still available for now). There are no more b&w 220 films now.
Ilford, are you listening? Can you offer HP5 in 220?

What is your source for the information that Tri-X 320 in 220 has been discontinued?

I did start a thread comparing these days to that of when digital synthesizers were new, and how electronic drum kits were all the rage in bands back in the mid 80's although the thread kind of got rubbished, my point was NOT that I think either of those digital technologies will go away, nor would I want them to, but film is currently a bit out of fashion and it might pick up again to a certain degree.

It hasn't. This is just another FUD thread that needs to DIE like the other one. People: when you even mention the possible demise of something, it WILL spread. So please consider what you say before you even say it with issues like these.

There aren't any discontinuations happening right now. It's already been debunked.

Let's look on the bright side. At this point, there are three major film manufacturers making wonderful films in a variety of speeds. Plus some smaller specialty manufacturers. There's something for everyone. So let's all buy and use film. Now might even be a good time to stock up, huh?

The reasoning gets a bit ciruclar...

Well, if Kodak didn't think the rebate could be used to promote their film business...why are they offering it? Clearly they want/need to move inventory.

Get people to buy film now in the hopes that they will buy it later.

5 rolls of Pro film is not an awful lot. Get them to purchase it now (because of the rebate) instead of Fuji, hope the customer likes it, and maybe they will purchase more again in the future.

Maybe I'm crazy, but I intend to take advantage of the rebate to save money:tongue:

Who knows? Maybe Kodak is trying to see if a little nudge produces a worthwhile result. Or maybe they are dumping inventory. I have a problem with the negative postings so I'll stick with the nudge theory for the moment.

Keep the whole chain alive. Not just part. If you are in the USA go to a CVS drug store and buy a roll of tri x once a month.

All they have is 135-24, but it rings up the whole distribution channels.

You have seen the bumper stickers that say "Say one hail Mary" and that works. So buy one roll at a plain old drug store.

At $8.99 per roll of 135-24? Sorry, but most people don't have that sort of discretionary income to burn. I'd rather order it from B&H for under $4 per roll of 36.

What he said, but insert Samys for B&H and I will pick it up instead of shipping.

I buy bricks of Artista Premium, but I figure an occasional drug store purchase is like paying dues. If I want it there when I need it I have to do my share. I figure I can stand one roll occassionally.

If cash is truly that tight I certainly understand. But my kids are gone and we're in the winding down stage of life. Others here are in my same place, so I'm guilt tripping them. (Hey, I freely admit it is a guilt trip.)
