Hi
I'm new here and new to the darkroom. I'm finishing photo 1 on college and purchased a used Saunders 670 DXL today. I'm hoping I'm not getting in over my head. lol

Is there anything I should know about using this enlarger or a place I can learn more about it? The guy at the store who sold it to me said that I needed info on filters so that my enlargements wouldn't come out light gray or I would have to use different papers to get contrast. Wasn't completely sure what he was talking about. Can anyone help me with that or where to look?

I'm really excited about buying the enlarger and learning alot more. Hoping to do alot of work with it before heading into Photo 2 next semester.

TIA!

try here

they should be able to talk to you about getting a user manual.

i would suggest talking with your teacher about using contrast filters, vs graded paper.

there are lots of threads here about using filters etc, but since your taking classes it might be better to sit down and discuss this in person rather than waiting for a variety of answers

Saunder enlarger

Thank you Ann. I will try the link first thing tomorrow...heading to bed soon. I only have one class left before finals, but will talk to my instructor if he has time before the end of the semester next week.

Having a manual will help alot thought...I appreciate the link.

Unfortunately I was working so much on getting dust off my prints ( I so HATE dust, LOL!) I didn't get a chance to work with filters in photo 1. Really hoping to learn about them in photo 2.

i am probably going to regret this.........but

photo one was an enlarging class and the instructor did not discuss using contrast filters when printing?
