Sandy King sizing paper video question

SOmeone posted a partial video of Sandy about to size a piece of watercolor paper. And just like the old days when the power would go out and the thrilling conclusion of your favorite show disappeared, it cuts out as he is about to coat the paper.

Anyone know what he did with the threaded stainless steal rod and how many times?. (Boy that is a loaded question.)
