The re-badging was very common. It;s surprising thatt the Sanderson bellows aren't as robust as some other Houghton cameras but then Houghton's was a wholesaler who owned or rather alamagamaed with smaller manufacturers and also had cameras made for them by Butcher well before they officially merged. Even buy the 1930's the sahre-holdings of Houghton Butcher still reflected the owners of the companies taht formed Houghton Ltd in 1904 and the later Butcher mergers.
The Mahogany used for your camera is very nice; at least many parts as shown in you pictures are made of so-called fiddleback Mahogany; by many considered one of the finest (in terms of decorative) of this type of Hunduran Mahogany.
Not only that Ron, its very light. Think I can keep it to the 1.5kg mark, excluding lens, when finished.
Made a rise and fall board from an old half plate dark board, just needed a slight trim and some backing ply to thicken up.
Made the lens board holder from another dark slide and some parts I robbed from an old copy stand.
Just need to make the lens board slide for a little left and right shift, then make it light tight and tidy up.
I had them made for me, took a bit of communication till they understood what I wanted, but in the end they got it right and were delivered in less than a week. I did a better job installing than I did with my Victo bellows, its a bit easier once you know how. Just need to tidy it up once I finished testing and know everything is working.
Weight worked out at around 2kg without lens, not bad. Wil make a nice cheap field camera.
Made the adapter, cut to allow 8x10 film holder, made the pressure plate. Just need to cut a 8x10 window for the ground glass, make a 8x10 ground glass and paint....fix light leaks.
Made a new film back to take 4x5 film out of some Silky Oak I have lying around.
Just need to give a final sand and a good shellacing on exposed parts and matt black on the other bits.
Now onto the front, I have some pieces of mahogany veneer on thin ply I have left over from some speakers I made awhile back. Also some plate copper for the rise and fall.
