Sanders McNew (Rollieflexible) in View Camera

I stopped by a Barnes and Noble today to see if there were a new, or at least recent, View Camera magazine to be had. Indeed there was...the July/August 2009 issue. I was absolutely delighted to see an eight page spread of Sander's work (nudes) featured in this issue. I'm also surprised that I've not found any reference to it here after a fairly robust search, so I'm happy to announce that it exists. Bravo Sanders!

Btw, apparently Sanders doesn't only use a Rollieflex.....shhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

It must be nice to have a Narnes and Bobble that carries View Camera. It's darn hard to find around here.

Maybe Sanders was using the rare "View-Rollie".

Anyway, congratulations Sanders! I'll have to see if I can find a copy.

Congrats, Sanders!

I've seen his 5x7" Norma and a few fine portrait lenses at his place, so I can attest to his use of large cameras with just one lens.

That's the best news I've heard all week! I've been stopping by the local B&N every 2-3 weeks to check and see if the July/August issue was in yet or not. In fact I found this thread when I was googling to see if anyone knew anything about the lack of any sign of it. Guess I know where I'm stopping tomorrow!

Interesting I had mine delivered about two weeks ago, or close to two weeks ago.

Yes all the photographs for his book were shot on a Sinar Norma and a 12 inch Commercial Ektar, according to the blurb on one of the pages.

The reproduction in my copy is excellent, however the type setting is not too flash. It appears that in an effort to pad out the article, an extra large type size is used, but the type size isn't consistent. One page seems to have about 14pt type with the following page running the type at about 16pt.

Disequilibrium, which is a word used by Sanders in the article, was a bit of an opener for me, I have always associated it with Cerebral Palsy. After checking with my dictionary though, I see it has a couple of other uses.

That is what the article says, but it is not correct.
The publisher chose four photographs to reprint in
the article, and I wrote to him that all of the them
were shot with the Sinar. I had explained in an
earlier email that about two-thirds of the images
in the book were from my Rolleiflexes, but the
article garbled that.

There are changes I would have suggested had
I been given a chance to proofread the article --
corrected the tech note, offered some predicates
for the reprinted text excerpts -- but I very much
appreciated the recognition and the compliment.

What!? Editorial mistakes in ViewCamera?! I am SHOCKED!! I guess there's a first time for everything. :rolleyes:

Anyway, congrats Sanders. I'll check it out if I can find it in a local newsstand.

It was a good article. The mistakez werent' two noticable. The pics are fantastic. I can't wait to put my Comm Kodak 12" on a Rolleiflex and shoot nice pics like you.

Please, I don't want to seem less than
grateful to View Camera -- they ran a
feature on my book and I appreciate that
more than words will express. I feel badly,
that the article contains the errors. I did
not have an opportunity to proofread it, but
I still feel in part responsible for having
been less than clear with the publisher.

Sanders, I wouldn't be too worried that it may be your fault.

I get the impression that they don't wish to convey the view, that there may be photographs from anything, except a view camera, in almost anything they mention.

It is called, "View Camera", after all!
