I was shooting on a beach the other day and it seems some sand grit has got into the focus ring of my Contax Y 50mm lens. I've tried blowing it out with an air compressor without success. My questions are:
- is this the right approach to remove the sand?
- if not is there another simple method that I can use to remove the grit?
- if not is there a person/dealer in Australia where I can send my lens to be cleaned?
Its not a major accident. I think you would find a person from Australia , there was a worldwide famous Hasselblad repairman at Australia and I had been called him from Istanbul to get his idea on homemade Hasselblad Flexbody.
I think he is from Sydney. Let me search internet and turn back to you positive or negative in 20 minutes.
Removing sand from a helical is a royal PITA. The rings have to be separated, ALL grease and sand removed, not only from the helicals but from all internal surfaces, relubricated, reassembled and adjusted.
Your first lesson is precision photographic equipment and beaches don't go together, I use an old 1950s folding camera on the beach that I wouldn't be too upset if it was ruined
