I’m working on a project that would be a lot easier if I could handle some 35mm film under a safe light, so I’m going to get some Ilford Ortho. Does anyone know what type of safelight filtration I’ll need? I already have a housing - I thinking I’ll just need a piece of glass, I believe 8x10”.

From the Ilford Ortho datasheet:

Safelight recommendations

Either total darkness or use an ILFORD 906 (dark red) safelight illuminated by a 15 watt bulb. As a precaution
against fogging and resultant reduced image contrast, a minimum distance of 1·2 m/4ft between the safelight
and the working area is recommended. For best results, keep safelight exposure to a minimum.

The Kodak GBX-2 is the equivalent of the Ilford 906.

B&H carries an 8x10 Ilford 906 of $159.95. You may find it cheaper somewhere else. I'd check eBay too.

Fumbling around in the dark is free.

Awesome, thanks. I’ll see if there are any in eBay as well.

I’ve been fumbling in the dark for a while now, and it’s time consuming, as well giving inconsistent results, so…I think I’ll give this a try.
