Since you've already purchased a 'pod, this is kinda beside the point....
AFAIK (someone smack me if I'm wrong) there is no standard the defines a tripod's carrying capacity. Since the manufacturer is free to quote whatever weight they like, the load rating is essentially worthless. Ideally, there would be a standardized test that combined rigidity, strength, resistance to vibration, etc. into some magic marketing number the consumer could use as a meaningful point of comparison.
