RZ67/RB67 Mirror-Up Cable Release won't screw into shutter release RB67 Pro SD

The short cable with the black end screws into the lens just fine. But the longer cable with the silver end won't screw into the silver shutter release button on the front side of the camera below the lens. I think I am missing something really simple.

The bar code on the Mamiya box is 4957672205034 and below that is what may be a catalog number for the item: 514140.

Any ideas are very welcome.

Hmm... I'm not sure why it wouldn't work but then again I've never used the dual cable release when using mirror up on my RB67. I just flip the mirror up by using the shutter release on the body, then wait a few seconds for vibrations to stop (in case their actually are any) and then click the cable release thats screwed into the lens.

Could there be a broken tip from a cable release in the button?

I've had this happen. Do you have another single release to try on the threads. Or just screw the other one into the silver release button. I found the Mamiya double release was a problem and just made my own out of two single releases and mounted them to one handle. Works like a double release without a hitch.

Last week, some of these fine members helped with mine. The chrome/long cable may need to be adjusted. Mine was out too far (tip projection) so I shortened it. The chrome tip has two moving parts. This is what the directions say.

(1) When the tip projection is to short. Loosen tip ring 1 (the back one) counter clockwise. Turn ring 2 (front) clockwise. Then turn ring 1 clockwise to tighten.

(2) When the tip is too long. Turn ring 2 counter clockwise, then ring 1 clockwise to tighten.

You may need to adjust it a couple times to get the right length. I know I did. Now it's working fine.

Mamiya RB Cable Release Won't attach to Shutter Button

Hi Everyone,

Thanks for all your help with my Mamiya RB67 Pro SD! And sorry it has taken this long for me to get the camera out and try out your suggestions.

Neither the Mamiya Mirror Up Cable Release (the silver end), or another brand cable release will screw into the shutter button socket.

The female screw grooves are visible in the socket.

I think I am going to have to send it for repair. But that can wait because it works great otherwise!

Is that counter clockwise and clockwise, as the tip is facing you?

PhotoBean, as the cable releases follow a standard clockwise turning to screw into the shutter release button, then if there is already a broken tip inside those shutter release threads, it must be turned the opposite direction or counter-clockwise to come out.
I have used in the past a soft piece of wood or even a pencil tip to back out broken release tips. Obviously you should never get too rough with the stuff, but typically those cable release pieces are fairly easy to back out once the soft wood adheres to the broken tip.

Thanks to everyone for your suggestions and help. The threads on my Mamiya RB67 Pro SD shutter button were stripped. I sent the entire camera to Roger at Camtech Photographic Services Limited in Hamilton Ontario. I asked Roger to do a complete CLA. Roger is exchanging the shutter button for another without stripped threads. Roger has done excellent Mamiya and ANSCO repairs for me in the past.
