I just purchased a 110mm RZ lens and was wondering about the aperture adjustments. When you move the aperture ring on the lens, I don't see the blades moving in the lens. Is this normal? Does anyone know the reason for this? I apologize if this has been discussed or is common knowledge.
The lens will stop down when you fire the shutter. The aperture is wide open so you can focus easier. You can see this by opening the shutter on bulb and looking into the lens.
The RZ, as well as the RB, has many interlocks to prevent the shutter being fired if some (mandatory condition for correctly taking the picture) is not met. Thus, I highly advise you to read the manual fully. The manual is available on the "butkus" website by the Holy Butkus, Saint of the vintage cameras.
It is part of a feature called "open aperture metering", and many of us here on APUG can remember when it was the latest, greatest improvement in the technology
