Russia trip

Have to go to Moscow in a few weeks, and I was wondering if anyone had any info regarding photographic restrictions, policies, etc. in the city. After reading some other posts, here and elsewhere, about problems both in US cities and abroad, I thought it would be a good idea to seek advice. Specifically, are permits required? I use 35mm. MF and LF(4x5). What are the attitudes, generally, of the local people and police?
