Yes, then a good thing to do, when people say you "Eh, the image is upside down !", is to say, "oh... yes, you are right", and then, you rotate 180° the revolving back

I just say: "Darn, I did fix the view screen upside down again ...."

Haha, this round has barely begun. I think the camera is either still in France, or on the way to South Africa, or maybe even there by now. It's gonna be a while. Don't despair though, we may have a spot open for you this round. So, keep an eye on this thread, in the meanwhile, send me a PM about it.

Breaking news !

Hi all !

@jnanian : Hi John, glad to see you again here If I remember well, you was in the initial schedule, but later declined, so, welcome back !

@Rick : The Camera 10 is in the box, and the box was deposited, in the beginning of this afternoon, at the post office ! This a little later than planed, the time for me to blacken a few pages of the logbook

So, the camera is now starting its great travel to South Africa, and is probably still in France, but not for long, or I hope so :munch:

Best regards,

Raphael

P.S : of course, I got a PM of Andrew with his address and the RTR signal (Ready To Receive)

Same here. Count me in for the next. I was too slow logging in and missed this round.

Just to keep everyone informed, I've been checking my mail regularly. I checked again today, and the camera has not yet arrived. I will let you all know as soon as it gets here!

Thanks Andrew, I'm sure it'll show up (who would want one of those cameras anyway).

Just as a heads up (because I think the camera may be coming my way next, if and when it reaches S.Africa) - I will be travelling during the months of August and September, getting back to Japan on Sept 19th. So...I guess we'll have to see where and when the camera ends up, but if it looks like it can't get to me by the end of July, then we may have to figure out different options.

That being said however, the way the camera is moving it may not get to me by September anyway, so there may be nothing to worry about...

How are you planning to travel back to Japan? I hope by water. September 19 is National Talk Like A Pirate Day.

Good news - the camera has arrived safely in South Africa!!!

I've enjoyed reading through all the comments in the notebook that accompanies it and will attempt to add my photographs (and comments) next weekend. I have a bit of a road trip planned for it, provided the weather is suitable...

MONTJOIE-SAINT-DENIS !!! ...Erk, I would said : Yeeeeehaahhh !!!!!

Thats very good news !!! I started to believe it was lost, as the last status I got from tracking site, was "the parcel left the French country" the June 1st !

Take care, and may the Photography Muse be with you.

Cheers,

Raphael

Today I woke early, had a quick breakfast, and set off at about 05h30.

I followed roughly the route that the British soldiers, posted to Natal colony in 1878 in preparation for the invasion of Zululand, would have taken. From my home near Durban, where the troops disembarked from their transports, I drove inland to the provincial capital Pietermaritzburg. From there via Greytown to Helpmekaar, the British outpost closest to Zululand. Then down the steep Noustrop Pass, which today is a rough gravel road with loose stones the size of my fist, where Lord Chelmsford's Central Column (one of three columns in the British order of battle) advanced to its final staging post, the commandeered mission station at Rorke's Drift on the banks of the Mzinyathi (Buffalo) river that marked the border between the Natal Colony and the independent Zulu state. Like the troops before me, I crossed the river (although with considerably less effort as today there is a road bridge) and advanced into Zululand, eventually reaching my destination: that place of legend, Isandlwana.

Here, on 22 January 1879 the Zulu army, 20 000 strong and armed with assegais (traditional spears) and a few muskets, charged the British lines. Here the British fought valiantly against overwhelming numbers. And here they died, as the Zulu force outflanked their over-extended positions, cutting the retreat to Rorke's Drift as they did so, overran the British camp, and temporarily defeated the invasion of Zululand. Here 1 300 British soldiers and 1 000 Zulu warriors lost their lives as the sun went dark that terrible day.

And here I took two photographs, one a self portrait, the other a panorama. The camera will be on it's way to Dr Croubie tomorrow.

Fabulous! One of my all time favorite movies was about that day, and I even used to own a Martini-Henry Musket from that era. The .450/500 was brought to me from South Africa via my business partners brother when we moved him to the U.S. in the late 70's.

Wow, Andrew, that's quite a story. Please note it into the log book as well.
I can't wait to see the images ...
